An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof. Contrary to popular opinion, gutters do not cause ice dams.

Q. What thickness of gutter should I get

A. The standard is .027 or .032. However in snow regions the heavier gauge is recommended to provide greater durability and strength.  If you are installing copper, a 5-ounce copper is recommended
