Galvanized steel is a commonly used product and there are higher grades of steel such as Galvalume and stainless steel. Steel gutters are strong but heavy to work with if you are installing yourself. Q. What thickness of gutter should I get

A. The standard is .027 or .032. However in snow regions the heavier gauge is recommended to provide greater durability and strength.  If you are installing copper, a 5-ounce copper is recommended
